Today we wrote recounts. A recount tells about something that has happened. We are trying to include: who, what, when, where and why in our stories. We also try to write how we feel as well. Check out these photos of us sharing our stories with each other, then enjoy reading these recounts.
Last week I went tramping at Lake Daniels. I went across a rope bridge. It was bouncy. I went fishing. I ate a tadpole and a huhu grub. Then I went hand fishing. Dad fell in the water with his noodles. Then is was bedtime. The next morning I went surfing with Dad. There weren't any life guards. I fell off my surf board.

Last Tuesday I played rugby at the park. The people in my team are Amelia, Libby and me as well as some other people. One of the coaches was sick so my brother and his friend, James, had to coach. I didn't like that.

On Saturday I went to Korean School because I need to learn some more Korean words. I came from Korea when I was six years old. When I go to Korean School I do art classes and maths classes. It is a lot of fun. I start at 10 o'clock and finish at 4 o'clock.

I went to Neve's house and we went to Jellie Park. It was really fun. Neve did the mermaid jump and then we went on the hydroslide. Then we watched people jump off the diving board. A big man jumped off the diving board and made a big splash. The splash went up to the lamppost and splashed Neve and me.

We've had a busy week working on our routines and getting used to the expectations of life in Room 13. We have been focusing on 'taking responsibility for my own belongings'. It's great to see the children carrying their own rucksacks and completing their morning routines independently. Thank you for your support with this.
We now have a selection of work on the the walls - our holiday recount, which we illustrated; prayers we wrote; shoes we designed - linked to our poem of the week Shoes; and a selection of 'Triple Star' (quality) work. Please come and look at our work.

Term 1 Week 1 'Star of the Week'
Week 1 of the new school year is now over. I am enjoying getting to the amazing Room 13 children. It's been great to meet you all as well. We have been pretty busy in class getting used to each other and our new routines. Everyone is working well together and helping each other. We have managed to get some of our work on the walls - some statistics (our favourite colours and how many people in our family). We have learnt a bit about graphs - ask your child about x and y axes. Also there are a few stories on the wall, with the rest to be completed on Monday. Come in and look at our work.
Each week we have a 'Star of the Week'. This will be someone who is focused in class, works hard, always tries their best, is able to listen and follow instructions, and is a positive role model. Their photo will be published on the blog as well as being displayed in the classroom.
This week's Star of the Week is Libby.
Ka wani ke, Libby, it's great to have you in Room 13.
