*This week we hope to get back into our normal routines. Spelling and Basic Facts will come home tomorrow. The children are keen to perform plays again so they will have these to work on as well. A browsing box book should come home every night for home reading. If your child doesn't bring one home, please let me know.
*There are still a few costumes to be returned. Please get your washed and ironed costumes back as soon as possible.
*The school library is closed for issuing of new books. Please return any books you may have at home so that our librarian can do a stock take.
*Next week (on Friday 13 December) we will be completing a big spelling test. Everyone will be tested in words from lists 4 - 7. If you cannot find your copy of these words, please ask for a new one.
*Thank you for your continued support of our classroom programme.

Bridge Making

Over the last couple of weeks the Kakapo Reading Group, Chris, Daniel, George and Lachlan, have been making a bridge. They read the book 'The Impossible Bridge' then they discussed different types of bridges. They looked at the bridges that were in the book then they decided to build a suspension bridge. This morning they presented their work to the class and to the Deputy Principal.
Ka pai, boys, you worked really well together, make an amazing bridge and did a fantastic job of presenting your learning to us.

Term 4 Week 1 'Star of the Week'

This week's 'Star of the Week' is Chris.
Ka pai, Chris, it's great to have you in our room.

We have had a busy start to Term 4.

We welcomed Harriet from Timaru. It's been great to have you in our class, Harriet.
Our topic this term is Eric Carle. He is a well known author and illustrator. Today we created our first piece of art using collage. Come in to see our vases.

The Year 3 children have been given their scripts for the production. Please help them to learn their lines and also learn where their lines fit in. We will practice at school as well.

In Mathematics we are learning about fractions. We have learnt that each piece has to be the same size or each group must have the same number of items in it. We know what denominator and numerator mean and also how to write fractions. We will do some more on this next week.

Have a relaxing weekend.

Ferrymead Trip

On Tuesday Room 13, Room 12 and Room 4 went to Ferrymead. While there we experienced what life was like 100 years ago. We had to dress up in costumes and wear them all day. The girls' dresses made walking and playing tricky as they were long. We had a great day. A special THANKS to the mums who helped us.
Here's some photos:

Room 13 News

Today Sienna brought in the gold medal and certificate she won at a recent ballet competition. Congratulations Sienna.

Today we learnt about what transparent, translucent and opaque mean. Transparent means that light can shine straight through, translucent means that light can shine through, and opaque means that light cannot shine through.
We looked at different materials and predicted whether they were transparent, translucent or opaque. We then tested each one by holding it up to the light to check our prediction. Most of our predictions were correct but there were some items that tricked us.
We now have another question: Do some colours let more light through than other colours?
