Welcome back to school after a lovely long weekend. Only three more weeks until the next one!
Today we celebrated Harry being named 'Player of the Day' for his cricket team and Jack having his name on the NZ Top 100 Students Mathletics board. Ka pai boys, keep up your good work.
As this is a short week we will have a break from spelling. Basic facts sheets have gone home and learning these, along with daily reading, will be the homework for the week. We continue with production practices, with all the Year 3 children gathering in Room 4 each morning to read through their lines. Thank you for your continued support with this.
A reminder about the CtK Garden Tour on Sunday 10 November. Please let me know if you are able to help out on the day. Also remember to purchase your ticket at the school office.
We are a class of 26 Year 2 and Year 3 children at Christ the King Catholic School in Christchurch.

Term 4 Week 2
We have had a busy week - on Monday we completed the stained glass windows we were working on with our Room 12 Buddies. We made these to show our learning about Jesus. We told our buddies what we had learnt and they shared their learning with us. Then we wrote on the windows before colouring them in. We wiped baby oil over them to create a stained glass effect. Our big buddies then cut them out and mounted them onto black paper for us. Come into our room to see them.
On Tuesday and Wednesday we had production practice. We have been busy learning the songs and the Year 3s have been learning their lines. We will continue with twice weekly syndicate practices and the Year 3s will have extra practices to learn their lines.
Today we had Discovery Time with Room 6. This is a fantastic session where children direct their own learning. It is great to watch the children working together and teaching each other. Check out these photos:
This week we also did some writing. Here's Rata's recount from her weekend:
Yesterday I went bike riding with my Mum, to Jellie Park. I was really hot. I was sweating while I was riding. Then at last we got there. I dipped my feet in the waterfall and walked around in it until my feet got shivering. Then it was time to go. I hopped on my bike and sped off to go home to Dad and Bree. It was a hot ride home.
Notices:
*No school on Monday - Labour day.
*The Parent Council are holding a Garden Tour on Sunday 10 November. If you have a spare hour or two and would like to help on the day please let me know. If you haven't got your ticket be in quick - they are selling fast. $25 from the school office.
*Wanted: Dress ups for Discovery Time; magazines for cutting up. Please bring into Room 5.
*As next week is a short week we will not have spelling homework. Children will bring home basic facts to learn and a reading book each night. Also try out Mathletics for some extra challenges.
*For your diary - Room 5 will be leading the school assembly on Monday 4 November.
Have a great long weekend.

Term 4 Week 2
At today's school assembly Liam received a certificate.
Ka pai, Liam, we are proud of you.
Summer sport has started. On Saturday Jack received 'Player of the Day' for his cricket team. Well done, Jack.
Touch Rugby starts on Tuesday at 5:30pm. All the best for your first game of the season.
Can you help?
We need some magazines for cutting up. If you have magazines you no longer need, please bring them into the classroom.
I would like to put together a dress up box. If you have suitable items you could donate, please bring them in.
Thank you.

Term 4 Week 1 'Star of the Week'
This week's 'Star of the Week' is Chris.
Ka pai, Chris, it's great to have you in our room.
Our topic this term is Eric Carle. He is a well known author and illustrator. Today we created our first piece of art using collage. Come in to see our vases.
The Year 3 children have been given their scripts for the production. Please help them to learn their lines and also learn where their lines fit in. We will practice at school as well.
In Mathematics we are learning about fractions. We have learnt that each piece has to be the same size or each group must have the same number of items in it. We know what denominator and numerator mean and also how to write fractions. We will do some more on this next week.
Have a relaxing weekend.

Term 4 Week 1
Welcome back to the last term for 2013. It was great to see everyone this morning and to hear about all the exciting things you did in the holidays.
We have a busy term ahead of us with swimming, touch rugby, CtK Day and of course our production. Practices will begin tomorrow and will continue in ernest until the performance date - 27 November.
This term's topic is Eric Carle - author and illustrator. We will be reading Eric Carle books, then retelling the story in our own words and creating collage art works based on these stories.
As it is now a summer term everyone needs to wear a school hat when outside. Please ensure your child's hat is clearly named. Hats can remain at school and should be kept on the hooks with the rucksacks. There is a bottle of sunscreen in the classroom (thanks to the Parent Council for supplying this). Children can use this before they go outside if they wish. It is a good idea to bring a bottle of water each day. This can be kept in the green box by the classroom door. Please name bottles.
Thank you for your continued support with your child's learning.
